If you have visions of Studio 54 dancing in your head you know about lurex. This shimmering metallic yarn was invented in the early mid-century but is still very much in vogue. In fact, with style lines blurring between day and night, what was once perhaps exclusively an evening fabric is now very wearable everyday. The Paris Haute Couture shows just ended and as with other Fashion Weeks there were definitely some stand-out trends.
From the exaggerated 80's to the regal Romanovs - full sleeves blew up at almost all the Haute Couture shows. The sizes, shapes and fabric varied but the theme remained the same.
Sheer dresses that showcase the wearers undergarments (should they choose to wear any) have been hitting the runways for several seasons and don't seem to be going anywhere. One of the few trends that has made it to Hollywood and its runway; the red carpet.
Haute couture gave us the cold shoulder once again. This time around draped silhouettes were favored which made for a subtle sexiness.
This historical trend appeared in a few ways on the catwalk. Vaguely Victorian to overtly Elizabethan, ruffles framed the faces of countless models.

Coincidently some of the best looks at last night's Oscars were also the most interesting. In a sea of purple strapless gowns there were a select few fashion choices that stood out. Boboli favorites; Valentino and Stella McCartney hit the red carpet and Giambattista Valli made it to the Vanity Fair after party.
